Homemade hummus is one of my favorite things to make. It’s super easy, and I prefer the taste over store-bought versions. Over the years I’ve developed my own recipe, and – according to Instagram stories earlier this week – you guys want me to share it. This recipe is so easy, and it takes less than five minutes.
What You Need:
- 1 can organic garbanzo beans
- Drizzle of olive oil
- 1 or 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped (I use a generous tablespoon of chopped organic garlic, from a jar – you can use more or less, depending on your preference)
- Sea salt
- Paprika
- Crushed ice (*secret ingredient!*)
- Slices of apples, bell peppers, carrots
- Pita chips
- Mini food-processor (I’ve used this cheap one for years and have been very happy with it, or you could upgrade to this one)
What You Do:
- Drain garbanzo beans and add to food processor, along with olive oil, garlic, sea salt (to taste – I do several grinds from a sea salt grinder), and 1 tsp paprika. Add a handful of crushed ice to the mixture and pulse until hummus is desired consistency. Pair with pita chips, apple slices, bell peppers or carrots.
A Few Notes:
- I prefer my hummus to be chunky, so I only process the mixture for a minute or so. If you prefer your hummus smooth, you will need to process a little longer.
- Crushed ice is the secret to light, fluffy hummus. I promise this weird trick works!
- Most hummus contains tahini (sesame seed paste). I really dislike the taste, so I don’t include it. If you love tahini, you can definitely add a little to this recipe.
Enjoy!
